What’s the animal feed pellet production process?

The steps of our animal feed pellet production line include crushing→mixing→pelleting→cooling→packing. The whole process is shown in the following flow chart. Below we introduce the whole process of making animal feed and the equipment used in the process in detail.

Step 1: raw materials preparation

First, you need to prepare the raw materials. The raw materials of feed pellets are divided into concentrated feed and grass feed, which are:

• Concentrated feed: corn, soybeans, wheat, wheat bran and other grains.
• Grass feed: straw, peanut seedlings, wheat straw, animal husbandry grass, alfalfa grass and other grass powder.

If it is for large-capacity animal feed production(such as 1-2t/h), we will be equipped with the raw material conveyor, dosing scale and automatic discharge valve.

Step 2: crushing

Then, the raw materials should be crushed. We have two kinds of crushers available, hammer mill and knife plate pulverizer.

• 9FQ hammer mill
  • Use the cyclone for dust collection.
  • Work with the screw feeder for raw materials feeding.
• Knife pulverizer
  • Compared to 9FQ, there is an extra inlet.
  • Its function is to slice the logs first and then pulverize them.
  • It’s suitable for cylindrical raw materials, not suitable for lumpy raw materials.

Both have the following parts:

• Screens: sizes of 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm and 8mm
• Hammers: made of manganese steel
• Blades: with tungsten

The service life is generally 500 hours. The replacement time varies depending on the material and the frequency of use. You need to replace a set after about half a year.

Step 3: mixing

Next, you should use the mixer to mix the crushed raw materials. We have 2 types of mixer, respectively vertical mixer and horizontal mixer.

• Vertical mixer
  • Only suitable for grains, or raw materials containing a small amount of grass powder.
  • Generally used for chicken feed and pig feed production.
• Horizontal mixer
  • Raw materials containing more than 20% grass flour and moisture higher than 20%.
  • The horizontal mixer itself mixes more evenly.
  • Used for sheep feed and cattle feed production.

Step 4: pelletizing

This is the most important step for the entire animal feed pellet production line. Our feed pellet machine has various types. You can choose the suitable one according to your needs.

• Power system: electric motor, diesel engine, and PTO type
• Capacity: 500-1200kg/h(use 2 or more sets of animal feed pellet mills if large capacity)

Step 5: cooling

After pelletizing, the animal feed pellets have a certain temperature and now you need cooling machines. We have horizontal cooler and bucket cooler.

• Cooling temperature: 3-5 degrees higher than room temperature
• Advantages: small size, low dust, easy to transport and simple to operate
• Structure: main machine and fans
• Types: horizontal cooler and bucker cooler
  • Horizontal cooler
    • 50 type: suitable for pellet mills of model 300 and below, and models with an output of below 800kg. One set of fans is enough.
    • 70 type: suitable for pellet machines of model 300 and 400, and models with an output of above 800kg. Two sets of fans should be equipped.
  • Bucket cooler
    • Used to cool the animal feed pellets.

Step 6: packaging

Finally, you should use the packing machine for feed pellets bagging.

  • Components: weighing part, conveying part, packaging part, and intelligent part
  • Weighing range: 10-50kg/bag
  • Sealing method: wire seal packaging, and heat seal packaging
